Radiant Orchid is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2014.

It’s officially called Pantone 18-3224 Radiant Orchid – and it’s described as a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple.

“As an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

The 2013 color choice was Emerald. Eiseman compares both, saying:

“While Pantone 17-5641 Emerald served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination.”

Eiseman continues, “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

In Fashion
Radiant Orchid’s rosy undertones help women look like they’re glowing when they wear it. The color was shown on the runways during a few of the Spring 2014 fashion shows, including Juicy Couture, Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan, and Yoana Baraschi.

In Beauty
Radiant Orchid blends cool and warm undertones, so its flattering for many skin types. It is ideal for eye shadow or nail polish. It pairs well with its sister shades of lavender, purple and pink.
